The Irondale Ensemble Project is as close as we come these days to the Elizabethan acting companies that once presented Shakespeare’s plays to the Earl of Leicester, Sir Francis Drake and the Virgin Queen of England. ...What is on offer is the miracle of the word made flesh. I wish you joy in it.” —Lewis Lapham, editor of Lapham’s Quarterly

MY MOTHER’S G.E.M.S.

August 12-13 | 7 PM

Emma is on a mission to experience the greatest feeling ever: touching God. She explores notions of how we choose our lovers and how love can fall apart through conversations with her mother about her painful marriage to Emma’s father. As she challenges her ideas of God, she is drawn to Dread, the neighborhood drug dealer and prophet. MY MOTHER’S G.E.M.S. deals with the struggle over finding a perfect mate, healing old wounds, and walking away from tradition for something new.

About the performer: Pamela Jackson
Pamela Jackson.Pamela has created performance storytelling on the stages of The Kennedy Center, La Mama Theater, RattleSticks Playwrights Theater, and Tribeca Performing Arts Center along with many other venues. She illuminates some of our most vulnerable relationships: God and Self, Mother and Daughter, and Lover to Lover. Using storytelling, Jackson pushes against the line between desire and devotion, and then leaves a door open to explore a new way of behaving. She holds an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College and lives in Brooklyn. MY MOTHER’S G.E.M.S is the making its debut in this production at the Irondale Theater.
