Assistant Facilities Manager
The Irondale Ensemble Project, a 34-year-old permanent Ensemble, Off-Broadway theater company, and founders and directors of the Irondale Center, (a 5-year-old Arts Center located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Facilities Assistant. The Irondale Center is a 5,400 square-foot open-space theater with a 26’ foot ceiling; flexible seating; a suspended, chain-winch driven lighting grid; and an up-to-date lighting, projection, and sound equipment inventory. The Irondale Ensemble Project (the resident ensemble), produces 2 original productions each season, and the Center co-produces or hosts up to 30 – 60 additional events, per year. The Facilities Assistant will shadow the Facilities Manager and learn the workings of one of New York City’s most exciting and iconoclastic performance spaces. (S)He will become a licensed fire guard (F-O3), and understand the workings of all the theatre’s systems. This person will develop relationships with technical staff, artists from companies presenting in the theater and Front of House personnel. They will assist in keeping the theatre and its equipment in excellent condition. They will, (when onsite) be responsive to the facilities needs of the presenting company. They will learn how to contract with outside presenters and make sure that contracts are strictly followed by the presenter and by Irondale.
The successful candidate should have a passion for theatre and the people who create it, management and delegation skills, the ability and temperament to work long hours, an ability to improvise solutions to unexpected problems and excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
