This Spring, Irondale’s Young Company presents Prepared Fresh, a bold and bizarre comedy written by ensemble member and teaching artist Nolan Kennedy. First performed by the Irondale Ensemble Project in 2008 as part of the “Under Construction” series, this newly revised version marks a fresh revival of the play.
Originally born from unused comedy sketches, Prepared Fresh evolved into a two-act theatrical experiment that challenges the audience’s expectations of storytelling. It is absurd, heartfelt, disorienting, and deeply funny—blurring the lines between reality and nonsense, structure and chaos. Rather than suspending disbelief, the play invites audiences to place it somewhere completely unexpected.
With themes of friendship, love, coming out, loss, and the beauty of embracing life’s unpredictability, Prepared Fresh offers a celebration of curiosity and acceptance in an unpredictable world. Get ready for a journey filled with giant hooks in the sky, pickles, Pride flags, and gravity-defying surprises.
Recommended for ages 13 and up.
