On Women Festival

On Women Festival

This mini-festival is a celebration of the experiences of women. Three different shows over the course of two weeks.
THE FRANCA RAME PROJECT | Written by Italian playwrights, actors and activists Franca Rame and Dario Fo at the height of the second feminist wave in the 1970s, The Franca Rame Project is a satirical depiction of past and present conditions of women in context of institutionalized patriarchy. From farce to tragedy, the texts frontally address pressing women issues, such as sexual politics, financial and psychological dependence, motherhood, prostitution, abortion, abuse, and rape, bringing political resistance and the fight for women’s rights onto the stage. Originally written in Italian, Rame and Fo’s texts find new life as performed by five female and non-binary identifying people in English, with selected passages in French, Spanish, Arabic, and Chinese. With M. Bazeed, Cynthia LaCruz, Laura Lassy Townsend *, Niki Morrissette, Yu Ling Wu. Directed by Zishan Ugurlu.
GROUNDED | Meet the Pilot. She was top gun in Iraq but now struggles with moral injuries in the Chair Force. Cindy Rosenthal directs Maya Carter (Period Sisters, HERE; Hedda Gabler, Ophelia Theatre Group) who brings a g-force reckoning to the stage in George Brant’s searing solo work about a female drone pilot.

BOTH SIDES NOW: THE MUSIC OF JONI MITCHELL | In celebration of the 75th birthday year of Joni Mitchell, the 50th anniversary of Woodstock and her ongoing 7-year celebration of the music of Joni Mitchell, singer and pianist Hannah Reimann presents a new staging of Mitchell’s work, BOTH SIDES NOW. Featuring Reimann as lead vocalist, pianist and dulcimer with guest instrumentalist Michele Temple (Pere Ubu) on guitar and backing vocals. Directed by Reimann’s mentor and friend, Austin Pendleton.
